Signed off!

This morning, we signed off Exchange 2007 for release to you!

We've bet the company on this product. Here at Microsoft, we have over 120,000 mailboxes running in production on Exchange 2007 – exceeding our SLA of 99.95% availability. Likewise, over 200 Technology Adoption Partners and Rapid Deployment Partners have over 55,000 mailboxes in production operating within their enterprise SLA’s.

In addition to taking the time to ensure this software was rock solid for you, we've invested more time in documentation and deployment guidance than we have for any other release previously. Please do check it out and let us know if we're missing something you need.

Thank you for all of your support, feedback, and patience during this journey by our team. We are committed to working with you on successful deployments in the coming months and years.

On behalf of the entire Exchange team, thank you for choosing Exchange.

-Terry

I'm really looking forward to the new version, but the "we've bet the company on this product" comment is getting old. It's almost as bad as the "****-killer" product comments. Exchange won't flop and the "****-killer" won't kill what it's supposed to kill.

Ok guys, the whole 'bet the company on this product' thing is getting a little old already. You didn't bet the company on E12. So long as Exchange 2003 is still an option, I think everybody out there is gonna be alright...

*Kizzer*: The Microsoft master plan appears to be that Public Folders are going away, eventually.  I would not be surprised if support (in terms of new features) is curtailed before then.

Geez, at first I read the URL as "mysexchangeteam " - yikes!

Add me to the list of 6473892 people who want to know when it will be released to MSDN. It is sad that MSDN release is not a deterministic process as it should be. Wouldn't it be nice to know that 'n' days (where 'n' is constant) after RTM the bits would be available to MSDN?

a) Is an update planned for MS Exchange Server 2007 VHD Beta 2 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6e6501f6-481a-4117-bc22-c745400bcda0&DisplayLang=en

b) will Exchange 2007 eventually be supported on Virtual Server 2005 R2 in production?

To the "it's getting old" commenters, above...

I think the point of the statement "We've bet the company on this product" is that Microsoft itself is likely to be the biggest single enterprise deployment of Exchange in the world. They're using it themselves -- if it fails, then ~100,000 users will be *very* disappointed.

If it doesn't sell (well), then Microsoft might have a bad quarter or two. If it doesn't *work*, then the loss could be staggering.

Most people don't think of it this way, but Exchange is Hotmail's biggest competitor after Yahoo in terms of users.  It's not AOL or Gmail.  They're nowhere close.  Watch out Hotmail!

RSVP'ing to Desmond Lee as above "b) will Exchange 2007 eventually be supported on Virtual Server 2005 R2 in production?"

As MS is pushing for 64-bit Exchange rather than 32-bit in production, I don't think this is going to be supported since Virtual Server does not support 64-bit guest .....

Just my 2 cents.....

Does Exchange/Outlook yet have a way to schedule travel time around a meeting?

For example, if I have a meeting from 2:00-3:00 but I have to travel 30 minutes each way, I want to indicate that I am out-of-office at 1:30 and back at 3:30 (so I can schedule other appointments around those times, any my secretary can know that I can be contacted during that travel window) while also keeping track of the fact that I am meeting with the other party from 2:00-3:00.

The fact that this was missing was one of the most annoying things about scheduling appointments with Outlook/Exchange.

Gratz guys! Have the Beta running next to our current exchange server and it is working great. Look forward to rolling out the proper product.

Also ... I would have thought to be a competitor you'd have to qualify under either:

a) Not being owned by the same company
b) Being appropriate for the job.

So hotmail doesn't count. Will try convincing my MD to move over to hotmail on cost and functionality grounds.... :)

This is going to be a huge release for the company. I am not thrilled about the fact that public folders were left exactly as in 2003. But I am not that fond of them as a service, but the options out there to replace them are not perfect either.

I think this is one area where Microsoft needs to spend more effort.

Great work and thanks,

Excellent!  Perhaps a better way is to publish or make available how Microsoft implement their exchange server infrastructure?  We understand the "eat your own dogfood" philosophy, but without proper guidance and best practice from Microsoft, it will take longer to get excited and deploy the new technology.
