Erik Ashby: Exchange Program Manager, Notes Compete

Erik Ashby is a program manager on the Exchange Server team. He's worked in the messaging field since 1991, and at Microsoft since 1997, when he joined the Exchange team. Since that time, he has owned the migration tools, Exchange directory integration, and setup and deployment. His current focus is tools for transitioning from IBM Domino/Notes to a Microsoft platform.

Hello Erik,

I am Jens Tolkmitt, working as architect systems engineering for Avanade Germany (I was a former MVP for Exchange for 5 years and also worked some years before as a Notes developer, so I know Notes).

I am in a customer situation on a Suisse bank in Zurich to migrate the Notes mail environment to Exchange. Here I have a problem: Because I have to migrate all data in two steps I convert the data into PST at first. Then I use exmerge to import the data into the MSX mailbox and/or into the archive solution to reduce the storage on the server. I use the Quest (Wingra) Migration Suite. So far, so good.

I have some Notes mailboxes with a lot of data inside - up to 11 GB! If I use the Quest tool, I can select Outlook 2003 PST format. Works fine, but.... Exmerge will not support Unicode and PST will use this. Then I cannot process the PST with Exmerge.

My question: Is a Unicos-version for Exmerge upcoming? Or is there any other solution to process these large mailboxes?
